About Helen Hamilton

Helen Hamilton was a community activist, housing advocate, administrator, wife, mother, and natural leader who worked tirelessly for the benefit of others within and beyond the Springfield area. Early in her career, Helen was employed by the Urban League of Springfield as the Director of Tenants Rights before taking a position as Deputy Director of the newly created Housing Allowance Project (HAP).  In this position, Helen oversaw all of the Agency’s major programs and helped guide the organization as it became a leader in the effort to provide safe and sanitary housing for all. Later in her distinguished career, she was appointed by then Governor Dukakis to the Board of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency – now MassHousing where she served until her passing as a result of cancer at the age of 53.  To those who worked with her and were helped by her, Helen will always be remembered as a mentor and inspirational leader who improved the lives of so many people across the greater Springfield area.
